This file contains the following: 1 - Program booklet titled, "Souvenir for Departing Juniors of Company 1181, CCC" June 27, 1938, Camp Charles M. Smith, No. 11064, Waterbury, Vermont. This program includes a list of supervisory personnel and members, as well as photographs and a brief history about Company 1181, CCC. 1 - Photocopy of a newspaper clipping from July 10, 1933 titled, "Mrs. Roosevelt Visited C.C. Camp in Waterbury" 1 - Excerpts from Vermont History - The Vermont Historical Society, Vol. 73, Summer/Fall 2005 including an article titled, "When the veterans came to Vermont: the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Winooski River Flood Control Project" by Thomas W. Patton 1 - Newspaper clipping from July 11, 1933 recounting Mrs. Roosevelt's visit to inspect Vermont C.C.C. Camp 1 - Newspaper clipping from June 29, 1933 titled, "Waterbury C.C.C. Camp Progresses; Swimming Pool 1 - Newspaper article from the Burlington Free Press (August 1, 1999) titled, "Two-year, $16-million project set to repair longstanding, dangerous problems: dam fix will strand reservoir users" 1 - Card titled, "Waterbury Dam: Winooski River Flood Control Project Little River Branch, E.C.W." with an explanation about the project 1 - Newspaper clipping from the Waterbury Record (December 8, 1938) with a picture of a skating rink and the caption: "No further use at Camp Smith this skating rink equipment has been moved to local park for town use." 1 - Page of the Burlington Free Press (November 16, 1934) with an article titled, "Automobile Road and Shelter House on Mount Philo Dedicated: work done by men from Civilian Conservation Camp and State Forestry Department is practically completed" 1 - Invitation to attend unveiling of the monument in memory of U.S. Army officers killed Christmas night 1935 in a fire at the Officer's Quarters: Captain Edwin Warren Boothby, 1st Lt. Charles Henry Brooks, 1st Lt. Leonard Boast Bushey, Captain Roland Daniel Potter. Event was held on July 19, 2007 at the former site of CCC Camp Charles M. Smith 2 - Programs for unveiling of the monument in memory of four U.S. Army officers killed Christmas night 1935 in a fire at the Officer's Quarters. This programs includes short biographies on each officer and a short recount of the fire. 1 - Newspaper article from the Waterbury Record (July 26, 2007) titled, "Gone, but not forgotten: Granite memorial a reminder of 70-year-old tragedy" about the 1935 fire at the CCC Camp that claimed the lives of 4 officers. 1 - Newspaper clipping from The Times Argus (June 18, 2005) featuring photographs of former Civilian Conservation Corps member, Joseph Young of Reading, MA and his visit to the dam in 2005. 1 - Newspaper clipping featuring a photograph titled, "This Valley May Not Become Big Lake." Troupin, 1st Lt. Med-Res. Inventory Officer and George B. Ax, 2nd Lt. 7th F.A.-Res. Exchange Officer 1 - Photocopy of a section of "The Vermonter" magazine (December 1933) including an article titled, "A Day in the C.C.C." by Tom Gormley 3 - Notices which appear to have been displayed on a bulletin board at the camp including the following: note from Mrs. Olivia Pinkham of Rich's Hollow Road advertising washing services for 50 cents and washing and ironing for one dollar, District Bowling Schedule, information about a checker tournament 1 - Typed "A Day in the Life" schedule of a C.C.C. Member from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM 8 - Postcards with scences from the C.C.C.
