Description |
These wooden shoes belonged to Joseph Somerville. The bottom of the shoe reads "Loaned by J.R. Somerville". These wooden shoe/slipper samples were used in stores so that the customer could see how the product would look when made from leather. The customer would be measured for the correct size and then the shoe would be ordered from the salesman. There are holes on the inner sides of both shoes so that a piece of twine or rawhide strapping could be slipped through them and they could be hung from a hook for display. They are 12" long and 3" wide with decorative tops. They are painted brown. |
